Department Introduction

  Introduction

  The department traces its origins back to 1986, when Academician Wang Zhongcheng from Beijing Tiantan Hospital established the “Shenzhen Neurology and Neurosurgery Diagnosis and Treatment Center.” In 1991, the department collaborated for three years with the expert team led by Academician Zhou Liangfu from the Neurosurgery Department of Fudan University’s Huashan Hospital, laying a solid foundation for its development.

  The department is recognized as a:

  •Shenzhen Key Medical Discipline

  •Leading Discipline

  •Brand Discipline

  •Guangdong Provincial Key Clinical Specialty

  •In 2019, it was promoted to a Guangdong Provincial High-Level Clinical Key Specialty

  •In 2021, it was upgraded to a National Key Clinical Specialty

  Today, the department is a nationally renowned center for neurosurgical medical care, education, research, and training.

  The Department of Neurosurgery has 135 beds, divided into five specialized units:

  1.Cerebrovascular Unit

  2.Neuro-oncology Unit

  3.Functional Neurology Unit

  4.Neurocritical Care Unit

  5.Trauma and Glioma Wards

  The department encompasses 15 mature sub specialties, including:

  •Endoscopic sellar region surgery

  •Skull base surgery

  •Pituitary tumor treatment

  •Glioma treatment

  •Cerebrovascular diseases

  •Neurointervention

  •Movement disorders

  •Neurocritical care

  •Trauma

  •Spinal cord and spine disorders

  •Pediatric neurosurgery

  •Neural injury repair

  It routinely performs treatments for various complex and challenging diseases of the central nervous system. The department is                 nationally renowned for its specialized techniques, such as:

  •Neuroendoscopy

  •Microscopic neurosurgery

  •Neurocritical and trauma management

  •Comprehensive surgical treatment of ischemic brain diseases

  The department is equipped with four dedicated operating rooms and advanced intelligent surgical equipment.

  •Annual outpatient visits: Over 30,000

  •Annual inpatient admissions: Over 4,000

  •Annual surgeries performed: Over 3,600, with more than 90% classified as Level III and IV procedures.
